On March 9, 2010, thousands of protesters gathered outside a Washington, D.C. hotel where the heads of the health insurance industry and their powerful lobbyists were meeting to make citizens' arrests of the CEOs responsible for the continuation of the health care crisis in this country. The charge: attempting to kill health care reform. Police outside the hotel were issued "warrants" to arrest, among others, Karen Ignagni (AHIP CEO), Angela Bray (WellPoint CEO) and Stephen Hemsley (United Health CEO). Said AFSCME International Pres. Gerald W. McEntee: "We are here to speak truth to (their) power." Indeed, "We're here to arrest the CEOs of Big Insurance because they are devastating our families and businesses and getting away with it."

For decades now the health insurance lobby has stifled all efforts at reform while assuring that the companies they represent rake in billions in profits - all at the expense of working women and men. Indeed, the CEOs for whom "arrest warrants" were issued make huge incomes with shameful compensation packages while their companies outrageously increase their already unaffordable insurance premiums on average Americans and small businesses - driving almost a million of them into bankruptcy.
