This has nothing to do with New york City, per se, but I wanted to bring light to an important race going on just to the north of us.
Westchester County Executive Andy Spano, who makes Bloomberg look like a fiscal conservative, is running for a fourth term in that office. During that time, Westchester County's budget has DOUBLED in size, and its workforce has also more than doubled.
County residents routinely get hit with double digit tax hikes every year; Westchester County pays the highest property taxes of any county in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation.
But Andy Spano, is not just an incompetent, tax and spend liberal. He's also a conniving, backroom-deal-making machine politician in the mold of Richard Daley I.
He recently stole the Conservative Party line, leading to outrage and a lawsuit from rank and file CP members. Spano is about as conservative as Nancy Pelosi.
He's also being sued for mismanaging funds and falsifying certification records on $50 million in federal housing and other grants.Much like we are dealing with an "emperor for life" here in NYC, Westchester County residents have a county executive acting like a dictator of a banana republic. Please consider lending your support to spano's Republican challenger, Rob Astorino. The sooner we get rid of big government liberals all over the state, the better.

The NYYRC had Rob Astorino address its membership a couple months back and I have to say Astorino is a stand-up candidate and one would have to be a fool not to support him. Of course, all campaigns are about money and I'm sure a small contribution to his race may be more appropriate to say a council race where you live (please check your district b/c there are council candidates that UE believes should be supported).
This year, Westchester has a chance to elect a Republican county Executive and a Republican District Attorney in Dan Schorr. We can be hopeful that both these candidates win and help to rebuild the Westchester GOP, which, like Nassau, has drifted leftward.
I don't know how voters don't see the cause and effect when it comes to the State's disfunction. As counties like Westchester and Nassau turn from a red to a purplish blue, the State has gotten worse. So if you "vote blue" you are making the state worse. Cause and effect. it's that simple.

Spano settled the false claims case, Bryan. To settle with HUD, he's agreed that Westchester County will force low income housing into wealthy neighborhoods, a formula for skyrocketing crime. That settlement is a scandal in and of itself.
I blogged about that earlier.
