Because I paid $250 to attend a Manhattan luncheon with Cindy McCain last June, I ended up on a fundraising list for the Republican National Committee. I smiled when the RNC telemarketer asked if I would consider donating $750 this time to help the Republicans regain seats in Congress. I didn’t bother telling him that I was dirt poor and the only reason I bought that ticket was because I was writing a bio on Cindy McCain and needed access.
Instead I told him that I had no intention of contributing anything to the RNC unless it chose Michael Steele as its new head. Steele would be the perfect pick that would demonstrate that the Republicans are serious about getting its message out to all Americans. He has been a great spokesperson on Fox News while chairman of GOPAC and is the antithesis of the stereotype that demonizes all Republicans.
I am not enamored about Steele because of his color but because of the man he is. I first heard him speak when he was in New York in 2006 and running for the Senate from Maryland. His Horatio Alger story is one that many Americans can identify with and if the RNC and the GOP can’t recognize the gem they have in their mist, they don’t deserve my support.

I met Michael Steele at the GOP Convention in NYC. He's gifted, and would make a great chairman of the RNC.
On the other hand, the selection of any single person, no matter how gifted, isn't going to turn around the RNC and the national Republican Party. The party is out of ideas.

Ken Blackwell is also gifted. I think the party will come back. This is cyclical. They could begin by denouncing these "bailouts" which are out of hand. The public is not on board with bailouts. In New York we are being made to look foolish with the annointing of Caroline Kennedy as our senator and yes, it will happen. The Democratic party looks corrupt now - which we knew it was. Even Charles Heard in the NY Post, an Obama booster, has turned on The One.

I agree that Blackwell and several other candidates are gifted, Alessandra, but the incumbent Administration pushing the unpopular "bailouts" of Wall Street is that of George W. Bush and the Republican Party.
The GOP is being blamed for the current debacle, with some justification. When you're in a hole, you stop digging if you have any sense. Bush continues to dig. We're not even close to turning the corner in the public eye.
I'm going to breathe a sigh of relief on January 20. That's when the damage to the GOP reputation stops, and the damage to reputation of the Democratic Party begins. The Democrats will blame the GOP for a year, and longer if they can get away with it. After that, it'll become increasingly obvious that the fault is theirs. They've already controlled the Congress for two years, so their "honeymoon" may be shorter than expected.

Here, Here, QJ. That's the central point we need to embrace.
Ideas and dedication to them over time will be what turns the GOP around. The RNC asking for money right now is kinda like when i get those letters from the Club for Growth. They must be kidding with their recent track record.

That is why we need to keep reminding the public of what they voted for this past General Election. Obama promised many, many things and was directly and specifically critical of Bush and the GOP in many ways. We first and foremost must hold Barack and the Dem's accountable for these promises and which ones they make good and which ones are successful...
