On March 9, 2010, thousands of protesters gathered outside a Washington, D.C. hotel where the heads of the health insurance industry and their powerful lobbyists were meeting to make citizens' arrests of the CEOs responsible for the continuation of the health care crisis in this country. The charge: attempting to kill health care reform. Police outside the hotel were issued "warrants" to arrest, among others, Karen Ignagni (AHIP CEO), Angela Bray (WellPoint CEO) and Stephen Hemsley (United Health CEO). To view all the "wanted posters" of offending health care executives, please click here.
Said AFSCME International Pres. Gerald W. McEntee: "We are here to speak truth to (their) power." Indeed, "We're here to arrest the CEOs of Big Insurance because they are devastating our families and businesses and getting away with it."

On March 4, 2010, HR 4759 was introduced by a bipartisan group of 28 House members to repeal the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). And it's about time! The agreement, which removed tariffs and various trade restrictions among the United States, Canada and Mexico, took effect on January 1, 1994. A product of both the Bush and Clinton administrations, NAFTA has been a disaster for the United States. Rather than creating jobs in this country - as its proponents alleged would occur - the United States has lost more than 5 million positions as businesses have flocked to Mexico to open low-wage factories and manufacturing plants leaving devastated American communities in their wake.

Congressman Eric Massa resigned from Congress yesterday. Massa isn't going quietly. He claims the White House and House Democratic leadership pushed him out in order to increase the changes of the healthcare reform bill getting passed.
Massa also alleged a confrontation in the House gym shower last year with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, who was naked.

This very sage and simple message is being circulated on the Internet and I thought it should be repeated.
Vote every incumbent out of office in the next elections.
If you're Democrat, vote Democrat if you wish.
Just don't vote for the incumbent.
If you're Republican, ditto, vote Republican.
Just don't vote for the incumbent.
The message to all politicians: we're tired of their incompetence, corruption, careerism, and indifference to best interests of the citizenry. If the country votes out all the incumbents, the incoming politicians will get the message.
It's pretty simple. Nobody needs to change parties, because, lets face it, there's plenty of blame to spread around. Call them Republicrats, or Dempublicans, the incumbents in office have failed to solve one single problem.
A few good politicians may lose their jobs, but they have better retirement benefits than 99% of the American public.
You've had to struggle for the last 5 years. Some of you have lost your job and may be working in some other sector just to feed your family. I guarantee you, none of them will suffer like this country has.
To All 535 voting members of the Legislature; it is now official, you have all failed the country. Below is an abbreviated list of your shortcomings:
a.. The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775.
You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
b.. Social Security was established in 1935.
You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.
c.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938.
You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.
d.. War on Poverty started in 1964.
You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.
e.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965.
You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
f.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970.
You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.
g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before.
You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats, while overtaxing us, overspending our tax dollars, and incurring more debt every year.
AND NOW YOU WANT US TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?
IT'S NOT ABOUT THE NEED FOR GOOD HEALTH CARE, IT'S ABOUT TRUSTING THE GOVERNMENT TO RUN IT!
So, say goodbye to the good life, Congress. Americans are fed up with you.

"New York Republican Rick Lazio's lackluster gubernatorial campaign has propelled some members of his own party to court a Democrat to switch sides and lead the charge against likely Democratic nominee Andrew Cuomo this fall.
Top Republican officials are scheduled to meet Tuesday with Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy in Albany, signaling a lack of confidence in Mr. Lazio's low-buzz campaign and his anemic fund raising.
"People just don't see the campaign taking off the way they would hope a Republican campaign would," said John Graziano, chairman of the Albany County Republican Committee. "There's still a lingering understanding that maybe somebody else will come on board that might be better able to win the governor's race for us."

Mr. Levy suggested Republicans were interested in him running in part because Mr. Lazio was short on detailed policy prescriptions. "No one even comes close to the type of specifics that I've laid out to radically change this state," Mr. Levy said.
Mr. Lazio, a 51-year-old from Long Island who served four terms in Congress, is best known for his unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign against Hillary Clinton in 2000. He is the only major announced candidate for the GOP nomination in the governor's race. In December, Mr. Lazio won the backing of fellow Republican Rudy Giuliani, after the former New York City mayor announced he wouldn't join the contest...

Queens Republicans and Assemblyman Felix Ortiz lead the charge to pass measure to protect the victims of domestic violence...
The DN's Erin Einhorn reports Administrative Law Judge Robert Beltrani - the Republican running against Hiram Monserrate and Assemblyman Jose Peralta in the March 16 special election for Monserrate’s seat - attended the event at City Hall.
“I'm here...to support this measure and to bring attention to the seriousness of the domestic violence issue, and to let people know that the people in government, in courts, are here to stand up and protect both men and women but more often than not we hear about the women,” Beltrani said.
After, the press conference, Beltrani made the (rather obvious) point that domestic violence is an issue in the 13th SD race.
...In 2007, Erika Delia was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. Beltrani and Ortiz were joined by members of Erika Delia's family, including Forest Hills Republican leader, Dee Maddis who was Erika's Aunt...
