Here are a few current political topics of today that maybe of interest for Urban Elephants to discuss.
A Quinnipiac University poll shows that 81 percent of Democrats are clueless. But we all knew this already.
The recent investigations from the DA offices of Staten Island and Manhattan on the Independence Party Party have upset party leaders and it appears chairman Frank MacKay will be challenged for his seat.
There's also the State vs City faction of the Independence Party and it is causing much mayhem with its ranks.

Democratic N.Y. gubernatorial candidate and current Attorney General Andrew Cuomo appointed former Chief Judge Judith Kaye, appointed by Cuomo's father, to "investigate" N.Y. Democratic Governor David Paterson for "misconduct" uncovered by the New York Times after Paterson announced his candidacy for governor, setting up a Democratic primary. In making that announcement, Paterson was bucking President Obama, who publicly told Paterson not to run. The scandal was carefully timed by Democratic operatives working out of the White House to pressure Paterson to bow out of the primary. There's a certain irony in the first black President giving New York's first black governor the boot.
I said at the time that if Paterson bowed out of the Democratic primary, the charges would go away. Kaye now has made that happen, keeping Cuomo's side of the deal. The scandal concocted by New York Democrats was never about Paterson's misconduct, and always about pressuring him to depart the primary.

Today a liberal judge basically gutted the Arizona law that would have allowed local police officers to inquire as to the immigration status of persons detained for already committing a crime and unable to produce valid identification. I just finished reading the entire Constitution (yes, I am a nerd) which is only 21 pages in pdf format and can be found here:

The only parts of the document that could remotely apply to this case in my view are the following:
Article I, Section 8 (powers granted to Congress)

Over the weekend, the NYT printed an article calling the Supreme Court under C.J. Roberts the "most conservative in decades." "The court not only moved to the right," the article said, "but also became the most conservative one in living memory, based on an analysis of four sets of political science data."

Writing in the Juniper Park Civic Association monthly magazine this past September, Association president Robert F Holden offers an eerily familiar description of our Congressman, Brooklyn-based Anthony Weiner. A former aide to one-time Congressman Chuck Schumer, Weiner succeeded to the seat vacated by Schumer when Schumer went on to claim a United States Senate seat. It's a common practice in this town, where political competition is hard to come by, for staffers to inherit the mantles of their bosses when the bosses move on. Just ask Assemblywoman (23rd AD) Audrey Pheffer.
She took over for her old boss back in 1987 when former Assemblywoman Gertie Liphschutz, rocked by a local scandal, had to step down unceremoniously. As with Weiner, Pheffer stepped up and grabbed the boss' chair and has had an easy time of it ever since. New Yorkers, even those in Rockaway, tend to vote the Democratic line out of long, atavistic habit and people like Weiner and Pheffer benefit. Pheffer's been in her seat for so long that few under the age of fifty can remember anyone else.
